Selecting from six fictional companies you are required to create a corporate identity package that accurately represents your ‘client’ taking into account audience, product, profiles and contemporary design trends.
With my logo design for the company ‘ Le Barbe Magnifique’ I went through with looking at different types of designs:
With the design of looking at using a moustache with looking through other barbe shop design that use a moustache in their logo design. With the some of them using detail in the design of the tash and some just using the outline.
With most of the design that the barbers shops have are the use of black and white and grey, however sometime using the colour that can be typically stereotyped with the male audience (red and blue). With my design I want to bring colour into my logo design whether it would be different colours such as oranges, purples, green or red and blue.
With the information that I had started collecting with looking at various different types of logos and even moustaches. I started drawing up some design:
Playing around with various different idea with having other object in the picture’s, such as : scissors, hat’s, flags, the iconic barbe shop light and a comb. when going through I personal liked the design with the different hates one being a top hat, boller hat and the Barrera. However thinking with manufacturing the logos onto the product i though might take more room on the packaging also they didn’t link in with it being a French company that much. Which is where then I looking into placing the colours of the french flag into the design.
With the design below; this was my first original design within the near to final Design. I liked the colours that was that I used with in the red and the blue having two tones, which I think gives it definition.
However with this design I found that there was a number of faults. Where i started to not like areas of the design. Such as the style (drawing) of the moustache; when looking at it I start to get the resemblance of snails and some comment as well from my fellow students that it looked like two whales kissing. Also I found the problem with the mirroring of the colours where the right side would show the french flag and the left side wouldn’t be the pattern of the flag.
With going through this discovery then went back to the drawing board and started design different moustache’s.
Looking at different design of moustaches, I relished that I was not able to do the same colour design (mirroring) so I needed to pick a shape that was strong and would be able to take and cold the french flag. This is when i came to my final Design. Where I put the flag across the design and corporate the lines of the different shades of red and blue to create the ‘Strands’ of hair of a real moustache.
