Communicating using only images (think Hieroglyphs or aeroplane safety cards) is a Challenges that allows designers and clients to think beyond spoken and written language or national borders.
With thinking about the idea of creating a Pictograph. There are various different type of Pictogram with them being used for sign that you can see in day to day life. Whether it would be in the news paper with Star sign or when you are outside with motor way signposting or in the street. With the images re-placing (symbolizing) words and/or phrases.
When considering what I wanted to create as a pictograph. I was struggling at the start with thinking about what could I recreate or make something that would have not been thought about before. First thinking about recreating Star sign I looked down the root of taking the idea for an Artist called Lora zombie with the sure of thick black lines and and having bleeding bright colours.

Then I found that recreating star sign, there is more than one different design. I dont know what I could have created that has not already been done.
However I then thought of doing sign post for woodland areas. Such as putting signs in forest areas which could get children interactive within this area. This is where I found that I can create different designing using think black lines, shading, and patterns within the design to create Interactive design that I could aim at my target audience. So to start off I went to look on pinterest at the different design of the woods, animals and looking at design using the thick dark lines and shading.

when I looked on pinterest I started to think about whether i wanted to have just different animals in my Pictograms or whether I wanted to have different woodland images. Such as mountains, cabins, trees or even have some mystical creatures such as trolls and fairies. With me bring in Fantasy creature highlighted that I was able to broaden my designs but also give my audience a chance to use their own imagination when they looked at them.
For me to start creating the design I wanted to look at references to woodland sign. So that I was able to have and idea of what other designer have produced or Woodland area have use in their area. But When searching for ‘Woodland pictograms’ there were not example for me to go along with.
With the designs of my final pieces, I found that the style I went for is commonly used with tattoo designs of black and grey with the use of different shading techniques.

With using line and dot work shading you are able to create Introkit details into the designs. What I liked about doing these type of designs I was able to add depth into the image’s. With doing do this style and creating the images I wasn’t able to draw straight on to Illustrator or Photoshop. So I had to first draw out the designs and by hand do the line and dotted shading. When doing the shading I found and learned that when doing more dot in a closer net group. I would be create and darker area and when having more spacing between the dot would create a lighter shading.

After creating my image I found that was not able to use the same shading is all of them with some of the textures on the image would work and make them look different than what they should be. Such as My design of the elf ; if I did her hair using the dot work shading it would not have the flow and texture of hair.
